At our most recent all staff meeting, we discussed the importance of listening and learned strategies to improve our listening skills. To learn more about listening, check out the powerpoint presentation. If you would like to practice your active listening, please check out the three activities we participated in.

At our November 2009 all staff meeting, we had Melissa Devera, a nutritionist, provide us with resources to help us support the individuals we serve in reading and understanding food labels, selecting healthy food choices, and menu and meal planning. You can view the resources and sample menus and recipes by clicking this link.

In March 2009, we discussed the importance of supporting the people we serve in participating in meaningful activities. Ashley Pyles and Ed Gunzelmann presented a powerpoint presentation describing Imagine's values and policies in regards to activity planning. Additionally, they handed out an Activity Planning Form and a Cheat Sheet full of great ideas for activity planning. Please take a look at the attached handouts and feel free to share your thoughts and ideas with your team!

In November 2007, we watched the dvd of the "Key of G". This is a short documentatary about a young adult moving into his own supported living home. After the movie, we had a discussion based on our thoughts about the movie, using the Direct Support Professional Code of Ethics. Here is the summary of our discussion (click here). If you would like to see the "Key of G", please contact Mary at the office to check out a copy from our resource library!

At our November 2006 all staff meeting, the leadership team facilitated a discussion about the dynamics of helping. The powerpoint presentation shared information about Imagine's values, and gave each of us the opportunity to complete several exercises and examine our own beliefs and feelings about giving and receiving help. To review the responses collected from the exercise "Modifying our approach towards help", please click here.
